But that may have only applied if a player was with a team, but inactive due to his military service. If Milbourne wasn't under contract to anyone, I suppose he was "Not In Organized Ball", regardless of whether he was in the military. If he was in the military, that would also explain why it took so long for another team to sign him after the Orioles released him.MCThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08283702499696500079noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4487834052004001845.post-80655988415136127442011-04-20T09:45:33.635-04:002011-04-20T09:45:33.635-04:00I'm not 100% certain, but I think he was in th...I'm not 100% certain, but I think he was in the military.Jimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06161762602291616465noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4487834052004001845.post-13067284297844781832011-04-19T03:21:24.899-04:002011-04-19T03:21:24.899-04:00Strange card. I have a very, very vague memory of meeting him in the early '80s when he came back to town for some sort of function at our high school.

It was a big deal locally when the Phillies acquired him in 1982, and we were all a little bummed when the Phils sold him to the Yankees part way through the '83 season.Jimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06161762602291616465noreply@blogger.com
