One of my favorite baseball memories of the 70's was an interview with Tom Lasorda during the pre-game show before the NBC Game of the Week. The Dodgers were playing the Expos and they showed a video of Lee and Grimsley on the field during batting practice, loosening up by tossing a ball back & forth. Their uniforms were filthy, and their shirts were unbuttoned with the tails hanging out down to their knees. Lasorda went on a rant about how Lee and Grimsley were a disgrace to baseball, shouldn’t be allowed on the same field as his clean cut Dodgers, were a bad influence on children, should be driven out of the National League, etc. etc. then they talked to Lee and Grimsley and they laughed and said Lasorda should worry about his own team. LOL. Which is exactly what I did watching the controversy unfold. Of course I was all for Lee and Grimsley. At that stage in my life I hated Lasorda and everything that had anything to do with the Dodgers. "You tell 'em, Scuzz. You tell 'em, Spaceman."Flitgun Frankiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04474023909860316340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4487834052004001845.post-91781301612898692212013-08-23T22:48:18.070-04:002013-08-23T22:48:18.070-04:00I just completed my '75 set so I'm rereadi...I just completed my '75 set so I'm rereading this blog -- great stuff. Ross is pitching coach for Richmond and I see him a couple times a year now. He dislikes this and the 74 Traded card for the lousy airbrush job they did. I have had a hard time finding this card in good shape. Ross is an awesome guy, and he smells just fine as far as I can tell.Jamie Meyershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15184760000629386642noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4487834052004001845.post-88774180126086919242011-03-01T03:36:03.487-05:002011-03-01T03:36:03.487-05:00Great insight into the name Skuz. Considering he had some good years, he must have been absolutely awful to be around.Play at the Platehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14231140141558021698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4487834052004001845.post-43616165551636157672011-02-20T23:17:15.241-05:002011-02-20T23:17:15.241-05:00The Topps photographer must have not wanted to be ...The Topps photographer must have not wanted to be around Grimsley which is why he got the airbrush treatment in 1975.

Topps had already airbrushed an Orioles cap on him on his 1974 Traded card, so they had plenty of time during the 1974 season to get a picture of him with his new team. It wasn't like he was traded late in the 1974 season - he played the entire year with the O's. Topps was either very lazy, or just decided to keep their distance from Scuz.Fleerfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15864097341083255908noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4487834052004001845.post-14868460982780514902011-02-20T12:31:23.103-05:002011-02-20T12:31:23.103-05:00Ross' 1976 Topps card freaked me out as a kid....Ross' 1976 Topps card freaked me out as a kid. That's where the nickname Skuz came from. It says he probably could have placed a "G" in front of his first name.

I'm guessing the '78 Expos might have been tempted to throw a couple of games if his funk got to be too much.Chris Stufflestreethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04229983444919282224noreply@blogger.com
